Trout Point Lodge of Nova Scotia Review

This rustic property, about 25 miles north-northwest of Yarmouth, emphasizes its rural setting and the culinary arts. Modeled loosely on an Adirondack hunting lodge, the property was built from spruce logs and hand-cut local granite. A natural feeling pervades, from windows letting in views of forest and river to fireplaces in the public areas. Eight standard rooms come with log walls, original art, log-and-twig furniture, loveseats, and work desks; two add stone fireplaces and decks on the river; others sport wood stoves, high ceilings, or bay windows. Two suites have canopy beds, sofas, and Jacuzzi tubs, while two cottages with various other amenities are rented out in part or whole; both are kitted out with full kitchens. The property offers canoes, kayaks, and paddleboats for exploring the local system of rivers and lakes (there's a dock and platforms for swimming as well). There's also an ongoing program of cooking lessons and culinary getaways here, plus a dining room serving prix fixe dinners.

Facilities:
Restaurant; hot tub; watersports equipment; sauna

About Our System

Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.

Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.

The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
