Baked Alaska

Everyone loves this casual waterfront restaurant and pizzeria, and it’s easy to see and taste why. Built on a pier in downtown Astoria, this restaurant isn't just on the waterfront, it's over the waves. The views are stellar, and the ambiance is calm and woodsy. Baked Alaska started life as a mobile soup trailer in Alaska; when the chef/owner and his wife decided to settle down, they picked Astoria. Begin with the seafood chowder—it's what launched the eatery. For mains try one of the signature Baked Alaska sandwiches, created by the chef when he had only one pizza oven and had to be creative. The sandwiches are made with hand-tossed pizza dough, folded and baked in the oven, and filled with meat and veggies. I would recommend the Cubano with pulled pork, prosciutto and fontina cheese. The handcrafted, brick-oven pizzas here are also worth trying (gluten-free crusts available), and so are the Alaskan cod fish and chips. What’s for dessert? You know the answer.
