Singer/songwriter Rita MacNeil grew up in Big Pond, and she never forgot her roots during her rise to fame. She always told audiences to stop by for a cup of tea if they were in the neighborhood. Problem was, they did. So Rita opened a tearoom for her fans, housing it in a converted 1939 schoolhouse. Today it contains a thriving gift shop (offering the music of Rita but also others), plus a comfortable dining room where you can buy baked goods, sandwiches, and soups -- with tea, of course. Alas, Rita is no longer with us, but her spirit lives on here. And the teas and sweets are great.
