Route 19 Tap and Brewing

This strapping pub—long lacquered plank tables, high chairs, big view-rich windows (of both the water and the golf course next door)—has a macho air, serving up lots of suds, along with chowder, fish and chips, pizza, and burgers. Standouts on the menu are the sherry seafood pasta served with garlic bread, and baby donair tacos served in mini pitas. (Fun fact: a donair, a relative of the gyro, originated Halifax in the 1950s when Greek immigrants adapted the usual recipe for shaved, spiced beef by adding a sweet and tangy sauce of evaporated milk, vinegar, garlic powder and sugar. These sandwiches are a late-night staple of the bar scene in the region). Route 19 makes its own brews with six on tap. Tours and tastings are available.
