The Red Shoe Pub

The famous musical family the Rankins run this neighborhood pub, continuing its long tradition as the daily gathering place for the best local folk musicians. It’s cozy and sometimes crowded, but the hospitality and music are first class and live music performances are held seven days a week. The Red Shoe’s menu is also healthier than other pubs. Yes, you can find a burger or fish and chips, but fried foods don’t dominate. For an appetizer, we’re partial to the “Pair of Shoes” vegetable bruschetta with chevre and hummus and grilled naan bread. The house special Red Shoe Meatloaf, a flavorful rendition made healthier with the addition of—what could be more Celtic?—oatmeal, is also superb. More stars of the menu include the vegetable lasagna and the pan seared scallops and bacon. Stop in on Sunday afternoons for the weekly Ceilidh featuring top-notch local Celtic talent.
