Caballerizas Reales

“In Córdoba, even the horses have their cathedral”, wrote the poet Federico García Lorca. Felipe II established the royal stables next to the Alcázar in 1570 with the aim of breeding the finest Andalusian horses, or Pura Raza Española (PRE). These monumental buildings, with brick vaulting and stout pillars separating the stalls, still house the famous purebreds. From April through December, the stables host a 70-minute evening equestrian show of extraordinary horsemanship. You can also visit the complex during the day to see exhibits including a fine collection of vintage carriages, and you may be able to see the riders putting the noble horses through their paces.
