Restaurants in Delphi
The problem with most of the Delphi restaurants that cater to tourists (most of them) is that the restaurateurs know that they aren't serving repeat customers. This does not inspire good service or loving food preparation. One other suggestion: If you have a car and are here any time but the winter, consider eating in Arachova, 10km (6 miles) east of Delphi, where the restaurants cater to a more local crowd. In winter, Arachova is teeming with the Athenians who come here to ski. Especially at night, the drive to and from Arachova, along a switchback mountain road, is best taken siga, siga (slowly, slowly), as the Greeks say.
Delphi's Morning Scent: If you are an early riser, sniff deeply, follow your nose, and take a sunrise tour of Delphi's bakeries as the first loaves are coming out of the ovens. Then, climb up to the Sikelanos Museum and enjoy some fresh bread and the view over the ancient site in the early morning light. Bliss.
Wining in Delphi: At Delphi and elsewhere in Central Greece, try some of the excellent wines from this region's Hatzimichalis vineyards. The Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot are widely available both in shops and restaurants.
