In the heart of Vorarlberg, Dornbirn, the "city of textiles," is the province's largest town and commercial center. Only 11km (7 miles) south of the provincial capital, it sits on the outskirts of the Bregenz Forest, at the edge of a broad Rhineland Valley.

The city center, Marktplatz (Market Square), is graced by a 19th-century neoclassical parish church and by the Rotes Haus (Red House), a 1639 building that's now a restaurant.
