Inn at Schoppee Farm
Four rooms in a beautiful renovated 19th-century barn—three with kings and one with two queens—overlook the pretty spot where the Middle River meets the Machias. Rooms are clean and farmhouse-contemporary, each with its own exterior keyless entry, private bathrooms, microwaves, and air-conditioning. Three out of four have lovely old plank floors. Guests share a well-stocked kitchen and a nice fireplace lounge. The Sunrise Trail runs right out the back door and connects the whole Downeast region—it’s tops for walking, biking, or ATVs (which the innkeepers will rent). The inn is a self-check-in affair, but innkeepers Brecken and Ryle Mortland are helpful and very responsive, if not on-site.
