Gyeongpoho

Located in the middle of the city's tourist area, the name means "clear as a mirror." Gyeongpoho was created when the mouth of a nearby bay was naturally closed off by sediment brought in by the sea. It used to be much larger, but the continual increase in deposits of sand and sediment decreases its size every year. A destination for migratory birds, it is now a natural preservation site and fishing is banned. The lake is surrounded by a series of bronze statues that tell the story of Hong Gil-dong, Korea's real-life Robin Hood.
