Getting There

Iberia and Avianco offer flights to Jerez daily from Barcelona and Zaragoza; four daily flights from Madrid; and several flights a week to and from Germany, London, and in the summer Grand Canary Island. The airport at Carretera Jerez-Sevilla is about 11km (7 miles) northeast of the city center (follow the signs to Seville). Call tel. 95-615-00-00 or visit www.aena.es for information.

Most visitors take one of 12 trains per day from Seville, taking 1 1/4 hours and costing 7€ ($11) one-way. Trains from Madrid also arrive daily. A ticket from Madrid to Jerez on the TALGO costs 65€ ($104), and the trip takes 4 1/2 hours. The railway station in Jerez is at the Plaza de la Estación s/n (tel. 90-224-02-02) at the eastern end of Calle Medina.

Bus connections are more frequent than train connections, and the location of the bus terminal is more convenient. You'll find it on Calle Cartuja at the corner of Calle Madre de Dios, a 12-minute walk east of the Alcázar. About 17 buses arrive daily from Cádiz (1 hr. away) and three buses per day travel from Ronda (2 3/4 hr.). Seven buses a day arrive from Seville (1 1/2 hr.). Jerez is on the highway (E-5) connecting Seville with Cádiz, Algeciras, Gibraltar, and the ferryboat landing for Tangier, Morocco. There's also an overland road connecting Jerez with Granada and Málaga.

Visitor Information

The tourist office is at Alameda Cristina s/n (tel. 95-634-17-11; www.turismojerez.com). Open Monday to Friday 9:30am to 3pm and 4:30 to 6:30pm, Saturday and Sunday 9:30am to 2:30pm. The English-speaking staff can provide directions, transportation suggestions, open hours, and so on for any bodega you might want to visit. You'll also be given a map pinpointing the location of various bodegas.

Fast Facts

Currency Exchange -- The most convenient location to exchange money is Banco Santander Central Hispano, Plaza del Arenal (tel. 95-635-65-27), where you'll find ATMs. It's open Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 1:30pm.

Emergencies -- In case of an emergency, dial tel. 061; for the police, call tel. 091.

Hospital -- If you need a hospital, head to Hospital Juan Grande, Felix Rodriguez de la Fuenta s/n (tel. 95-635-73-00).

Post Office -- The main branch of the post office is at Calle Cerrón 2 (tel. 95-632-67-33). It's open Monday to Friday 8:30am to 8:30pm, Saturday 9:30am to 2pm.
