Tsunami

A local favorite since 1998, Tsunami serves clean food with Asian flavors. After traveling the Pacific Rim, owner Ben Smith returned home to Memphis in 1994 and started pairing those influences with French technique. Their mussels in curry are particularly craveable, and they make their own bread in-house for dipping. Specialties for more than a decade have also included Smith’s roasted sea bass with black Thai rice and soy beurre blanc and a sublime Tahitian-vanilla crème brûlée. Appetizers faves are shrimp pot stickers with chili-soy dipping sauce and wasabi deviled eggs. Tropical colors over cement floors and walls enliven the minimalist setting, which all serves to underscore why you’re here: the food. The menu doesn’t change much, but that’s part of what makes Tsunami a staple of the Memphis dining scene.
