Restaurants in Monemvassia
There are a number of cafes and restaurants along Monemvassia's main drag, but it's hard to resist Matoula's (tel. 27320/61-660), which has been serving good spitiko fageto (home cooking) since the early 1960s. A few doors away, To Kanoni (tel. 27320/61-387) has a more varied menu, including a rich spaghetti carbonara. Both restaurants have indoor and outdoor tables and views over the town and sea. Depending on what season and what time of day you eat, you'll enjoy watching the chic young Athenians who flock here on weekends -- or the less chic middle-aged Europeans. They're the ones studying guidebooks, while the Athenians snap photos of each other with their kineta (cellphones). Lunch or dinner with wine runs from 20€.
