Peloponnesian Folklore Foundation Museum
At this handsome neoclassical house in the Old Town, the emphasis is on beautiful textiles, along with looms and other equipment used to make clothing—harking back to the days when most all everyday items were made at home. Peloponnesian families donated many of the embroidery and dowry items, though the holdings come from all over Greece and include such rarities as sperveri, tents that surround bridal beds in the Dodecanese. Especially evocative are re-creations of the overstuffed drawing rooms from the homes of well-to-do 19th-century Nafpliots, affording a glimpse into the opulent lives of the bourgeoisie. These are all the more fascinating because of Nafplion’s 19th-century fascination with European styles, then in fashion as Otto of Bavaria and other Western royalty assumed the throne of the new kingdom of Greece. 2 hr.
