Rolo’s
Ridgewood is the coolest up-and-coming neighborhood in the city, and Rolo’s is where the 20- and 30-something denizens of the scene get their meals—all day long. In the morning and afternoon, this is an Italian-style bakery, with coffee drinks, pastries, focaccia topped with all sorts of treats, and sandwiches crafted from house-baked breads and house-cured meats. Come nightfall they fire up a roaring wood stove and give an appealing char to a wide range of dishes—lasagna, cabbage with Sichuan peppers, classic steaks, and more. The food is topnotch, probably because the five friends who founded Rolo’s met at the once-great Manhattan eatery Gramercy Tavern (we no longer recommend dining there, sadly). And the scene is one of the grooviest in the city, with a soundtrack of alt pop, and all of the diners looking like they just modeled for Everlane ads.
