Via Carota

Restaurant years are like dog years: hit 10, as Via Carota did in 2024, and you become a senior citizen. But somehow this bricks-and-mortar ode to Italian cuisine still feels like a puppy. Diners line up nightly to get tables (there are very few reservations given out), and among them will often be some celebs (Taylor Swift, for example), as this is still one of the Village’s prime see-and-be-seen spots. Why the continued fuss? Rooms that look lifted from a trattoria in Siena, and straightforward but spectacularly flavorful food from various regions of The Boot. Among the most celebrated dishes are cacio e pepe pasta (Taylor’s fave), Sicilian-style meatballs with pine nuts and raisins, and a negroni so iconic they’re now selling it bottled in liquor stores. If you want to guarantee a waitless-meal, show up at 11:30am for lunch, or attempt to snag one of the few reservations well in advance on Resy. We also highly recommend its Tuscan sister resto I Sodi (314 Bleecker St.).
