Climate

Osaka has a moderate climate with four distinct seasons. In winter the temperature varies from 6°C to 9°C (42°F–48°F). The temperature can sometimes drop below freezing but it rarely snows. Cherry blossoms herald spring’s arrival in April and the city’s Ginkgo trees turn yellow in autumn; both seasons are pleasant times to visit. Summer is hot and humid with temperatures reaching 28°C (86°F). The rainy season is between late June and late July and during the September typhoon season.

Calendar of Events

The late January International Women’s Marathon attracts runners from around the world. Sumo comes to town in mid-March when the Osaka Tournament takes place. In early April the cherry blossoms come into bloom -- one of the most impressive displays is at the Osaka Mint. The July arrival of summer coincides with Tenjin Matsuri, celebrated with barge river processions and firework displays. The October Mido-Suji Parade sees floats and bands process through the city.
