If the Breakers is too mammoth for your taste, consider this former Ritz Carlton. A lot warmer than the Four Seasons, Eau (pronounced “oh?” and French for water), located on a beautiful beach in a tiny town about 8 miles from Worth Avenue, lacks pretension and feels more like a boutique hotel. Rooms all have balconies with hanging chairs from which to view ocean, pool, and gardens views, and are decorated in the bright blues and yellows of whimsical interior designer Jonathan Adler. The 42,000-square-foot Eau Spa—one of only 48 in the world with Forbes’ five-star rating—has 19 treatment rooms, scrub and polish rooms, steam room, saunas, and a “Self Centered” garden featuring swings, dipping pools, and water-massage benches. Four restaurants, an ice cream parlor and a spa café keep guests well fed. Kids ages 3-12 are welcome at Loggers, an immersive kids’ club, while teens have their own space, the Hide Away, featuring gaming, movies and sports. Kids under 5 eat free throughout the resort except at Angle. There are also 3 Har-Tru tennis courts.
