A no-frills motel on the beach, the Sanibel Inn is a complex of low-rise buildings with recently renovated "nature-inspired" rooms, one-bedroom suites, and two-bedroom condos. Those who don't want to climb stairs should request a room on the first floor because there are no elevators here. A resort charge covers spotty Wi-Fi, beach chairs and umbrellas, bikes, kayaks, and tennis racquets and balls. Second floor rooms have better views, of course, and are worth the extra coinage because most have been refreshed, and stays are clean and comfortable. In addition to the beachfront there is a heated pool, a poolside bar and grill, a so-so restaurant, and, our favorite, butterfly- and hummingbird-populated gardens. We're not, however, fans of the bug situation here. Bring plenty of bug spray. Golfers will appreciate access to the nearby Dunes Championship Golf Course.
