Hotel Pintor El Greco
One of the city’s most romantic lodgings, the original section of this hotel is built around the core of a classic 17th-century Toledo house (and former bakery) constructed of brick and stucco both inside and out. Carved wooden furniture upholstered in patterned woven fabrics, wrought-iron banisters and light fixtures, and sunny colors sponged on stucco walls conjure fine living in old Toledo. An addition is as ultra-modern as the original is traditional, with contemporary dark wood and leather furniture, bright splashes of saturated color in pillows and wall decor, white marble floors, and flat-screen TVs. We prefer the older section for its historical ambiance. The location on the west side of town in the old Jewish Quarter near the Sinagoga del Tránsito and the Convento de San Juan de los Reyes is quiet, but it’s only a short walk to the cathedral.
