Expedia (tel. 800/551-2534; www.expedia.com) has a great last-minute offer for hotels priced from $99 per night and four-nights plus airfare priced from $499 for stays in Cancún/Riviera Maya, as long as you book by August 15 and can travel by September 30. This last-minute special has other bonuses, too. In addition, some properties are offering a percentage off food and beverage, others are promoting free upgrades, free Internet, free stays and meals for children, resort credits, or spa services offered gratis.
Some of the resorts in this special are all-inclusive, bundling it together for a one-stop shopping kind of vacation; you'll also commonly find children's activities planned throughout the day if parents and children want to do their own thing. The low price advertised is for Dreams Cancun Resort and Spa, priced from $499 for air plus four nights (flights priced from Los Angeles); the special offer is for unlimited golf, and kids can stay and eat free; just be sure to read the fine print with the deal because it's restricted to certain dates, and there are blackout dates, too. Expedia classifies the property as four-stars, and the property has two pools, four restaurants, activities, and children's club. Rooms have sea or lagoon views and DVD players, bathrobes, slippers and a minibar.
Altogether, there are about two dozen properties included in this special, ranging from three to five-stars. A couple of chain hotels are included, such as the Hyatt Regency Cancun, priced from $149 per night or $623 for air and four nights, with a free family dinner thrown in as a special. The Hyatt Cancun Caribe Resort is priced from $139 for hotel, or $701 for air and four nights, with children eating and staying for free. The Riu Playacar all-inclusive, priced from $162 per night, puts airfare and four nights at $732, with free stays and meals for children. The Allegro Playacar, situated just south of Playa del Carmen, is a similar all-inclusive style resort, with a similar special offer for children is an all-inclusive resort also in this special, priced at $702 for air and four nights. For those who may be traveling without children and who want to spend a little more, Secrets Capri Riviera Cancun, a four-and-a-half star property for adults only situated between Cancun and Playa del Carmen, the resort is priced from $1,008 for airfare and four nights. Here, the special includes a free massage for two; there are other credits and offers available, too, just make sure you read the fine print.
