On the Thames for Tightwads: Six Nights in London Has Simply Never Been This Cheap

By David A. Lytle

Two budget behemoths have started a battle royale to see just who can get you across the pond for the least amount of money. We know Americans are fighting the urge to travel right now, even domestically, but these prices are unheard of for packages in the springtime. We seriously suggest you consider these deals. Both companies are practically giving these trips away.

First up, is Rodney Ezrapour's OffPeakTraveler.com. Get this, you can fly out of JFK to London any day of the week from now through June 16 starting from only $378! Prices are based on two people traveling together and sharing a room and include your hotel and roundtrip airfare with Air India. Expect to pay an additional $109 per person in taxes and fees, meaning two people can take this vacation for a total of $974--that's $81 a day each, and in the popular spring time no less. Departures on Air India are also available out of Chicago starting from $508 per person. For more information, go www.offpeaktraveler.com.

Breathing down OffPeak's neck is, no surprise, Go-Today, who's same six-night/seven-day combos out of New York's JFK on Air India start from $399 per person, based on double occupancy. Additional costs include an identical $109 in taxes and fees and a $10-minimum document mailing fee bringing the total for two people to $1,026, or $85.50. These prices are valid through June 15, 2003. For more information, go to www.gotoday.com.

How do they compare? OffPeak's is a better deal, if you can fly out of JFK. It's also better because the prices don't change depending on the day of the week. With Go-Today's, you'll only get the lowest price only if you fly out or return on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday; flights on other days incur $50 each-way weekend surcharge, upping your price by another $100, but still keeping your total cost within a budget trip. Both companies offer additional gateways at additional fees.
