Review of Torre de la CalahorraThe Tower of Calahorra is across the river from the Mezquita at the southern end of the Roman bridge. Commissioned by Henry II of Trastamara, in 1369, to protect him from his brother, Peter I, it now houses a town museum, Museo Vivo de Al-Andalús. Here visitors can take a self-guided tour with headsets. One room holds wax figures of Córdoba's famous philosophers, including Maimónides. Other rooms exhibit a miniature model of the Alhambra at Granada, complete with water fountains, a miniature Mezquita, and a display of Arab musical instruments. You can climb to the top of the tower for some panoramic views of the Roman bridge, the river, and the cathedral/mosque. Note: At the time of this writing, the tower was temporarily closed for restoration -- call or check the website for an update. Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.
Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.
The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
