Frommer's Review
For decades under Franco's rule, Gypsies were scorned -- along with the architecture on their hill, Sacromonte -- and even often persecuted. Times have changed, and today their flamenco music is taken seriously, regarded as an art form and approached with a high degree of scholarship.
This living, breathing museum of a formerly vital but now-dying way of life combines 10 separate caves, each a former residence or crafts studio, along with common exposition areas and a botanical garden. Many tools are displayed, including a formidable-looking loom. There's also a carpenter's studio, a kiosk selling flamenco recordings and gift items, plus a staff who works to produce an ongoing series of cultural and ecological events that change on a rotating basis.
To reach the museum, walk up the steep cobble-covered paths from a point near the top of the Río Darro, from Paseo de los Tristes. This is a continuation of the much-visited Carrera del Darro, just across the ravine from the Alhambra. Or you can take bus no. 31 or 32 from the Plaza Nueva, at the bottom of the hill.

Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.
Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.
The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
