An increasing number of discerning visitors are going to Andalusia wanting to dine in típico joints that rarely see a foreigner. Our nomination for the most rustic local bodega in Granada is the Castañeda. It's been here for more than a century and is the oldest of its type in the colorful Albaicín barrio, only a 10-minute walk from the Alhambra, just off the Plaza Nueva. A convivial spot, it's crowded with locals who know they can get tasty but unpretentious food at low, low prices. Winning high praise is the wide range of tapas -- there are 18 stuffed versions of the humble potato alone. Other meals include a variety of thick stews served in traditional clay bowls, ideal if you're visiting on a cold day. You can order a tabla ibérica, a selection of small dishes featuring cheese, ham, crab, shrimp, and venison.
