Lugging the kids to New York City can be a daunting experience. Finding a hotel that makes that experience (whether in the accommodations or in the amenities), a bit less overwhelming can be a huge help. Here are some of the city’s best accommodations for families:

Hotel Beacon (Upper West Side) In-room kitchenette, on-site laundromat, and spacious rooms in a kid-friendly neighborhood—what more do you want?

Freehand New York City (Flatiron District) A hipster hotel, to be sure, but with its location near Madison Square Park, its game room, its multiple eating options and its reasonable-for-NYC pricing this is also a smart choice for families.

Parker Hotel  (Midtown West) A wonderfully friendly staff, a great swimming pool, a kid-friendly burger joint in the lobby, and spacious rooms and suites.

The Lowell (Upper East Side) Total luxe, but with the feel of a residential dwelling. Most units are equipped with a kitchenette or full kitchen.

The Leon Hotel (Chinatown) Rooms here are massive, the staff is wonderfully friendly, and the hotel is in a neighborhood children (and their parents) will love exploring. Plus room-rates tend to fall about $40/night less than the competition.

Novotel New York (Midtown West) Kids 16 and under stay free in their parent’s room and eat free at the hotel’s Café Nicole.

Pod 39 (Midtown West) . Bunk bed rooms plus ping pong and pool tables in the lobby. Can you say kiddie heaven (and at an affordable rate)? The other Pod Hotels (there are now 4 in New York City) are as family friendly...though they don't have ping pong tables.

Skyline Hotel and Travel Inn (Midtown West) Inexpensive to free parking at the Skyline and Travel Inn, respectively, oversize rooms, and swimming pools (a rarity in affordable hotels).
