The hotel 60 Thompson and its public spaces are a magnet for people of the beautiful kind, and Kittichai, the restaurant that shares the hotel's address, more than reinforces that reputation. From the Thai-silk-and-wood-covered walls to the model-like servers to the luminous reflecting pool where candles float peacefully in the restaurant's center, everything is pristine at Kittichai. But don't let all that style intimidate you from trying the restaurant's inventive and flavorful food. Kittichai offers Thai tapas and, of these, the fish cakes and the sesame-spiced chicken lollipops stand out. And even a vegetarian might be tempted by the chocolate back-ribs appetizer. For the entrees, I was extremely content with the hearty short ribs in green curry while the clay-pot prawns with vermicelli and prosciutto (that Thai staple) was like nothing I'd ever had in any other Thai restaurant. Despite the peaceful aura created by the design, Kittichai can reach high decibel levels, so be prepared.
