Frommer's Review
The restaurant scene on Amsterdam Avenue in the low 80s is particularly volatile, but for over 9 years, Savann has survived on that difficult stretch of real estate thanks to consistently top-notch food, personable service, and a casual, low-key atmosphere. This is a neighborhood place with regulars who swear by the food. Some favorites include the home-cured gravlax, here served over a chickpea-scallion pancake in a flying-fish caviar and dill sauce; the grilled calamari; the Seafood Savann, a medley of seafood in a light tomato sauce served over linguine; the mixed seafood phyllo purse; and the perfectly cooked filet mignon. For dessert don't miss the tarte tatine, a homemade apple tart served with cinnamon ice cream and warm honey. In warm weather, the sidewalk cafe is a great place for people-watching.
