Frommer's Review
Even after 12 years, the Soho Grand still retains its cool. The Grand Bar, one level above the street and just a few feet from the check-in desk, with its sofas and comfy chairs, was one of the first "lounge bars" in New York and has remained a hot spot. Guest rooms, however, have not quite kept up with the times and could use a makeover; bathrooms are a good size but spare.
Make sure you ask for a nonsmoking room; the hotel attracts a hip, European crowd that enjoys a nicotine fix and the cigarette stench can linger well after the guests have departed. But you choose the Soho Grand more for the name and all that it implies rather than for comfort and service.
Facilities:
Restaurant; bar and lounge; fitness center; concierge; 24-hr. room service; laundry service; dry cleaning; nonsmoking rooms; butler's pantry w/complimentary coffee, tea, and hot chocolate on every floor

Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.
Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.
The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
