Frommer's Review

Its curiously un-New York name aside, The London, formerly the RHIGA Royal Hotel, after a major renovation, is the quintessential New York midtown hotel. A property now of LXR Luxury Resorts, The London NYC features a sleek, airy look. The lobby is high-ceilinged and bright with white marble attended by black-coated, derby-wearing porters. Off the lobby is the blue-gray leather-wrapped London Bar while through a set of closed doors is the hotel's restaurant, Gordon Ramsay at The London, helmed by famed chef, Gordon Ramsay. The rooms, excuse me, the flats (this is The London) are spacious with big windows providing spectacular views of the neighborhood -- the hotel with 54 floors is one of the New York's tallest. If you suffer from vertigo, the shades are operated electronically as is the mood lighting . . . if you are in the mood. With flat screen LCD televisions, iHome iPod docking stations wireless Internet (inexplicably for a daily charge), and the addition of oak parquet floors give the hotel's cool feel more of a rustic homey touch. The white-tiled bathrooms have been designed by the bath purveyor Waterworks and feature their amenities. The hotel's suites include two televisions, a separate parlor area, some with French doors, and baths with two showerheads. Located in a prime midtown neighborhood close to MoMA, City Center, and Rockefeller Center, The London, though a bit corporate-cold, is a welcome change from the worn RHIGA Royal.
