Frommer's Review
You'll never forget you are in New York when you stay at the Affinia Manhattan. From the large lobby -- sort of a miniversion of the Waldorf= Astoria's, where a Grand Central Station-like information booth in its center features a series of televisions with video images of New York landmarks -- to check-in, where you are offered a complimentary glass of "Snapple Apple" juice, to the King Kong doll you'll find on the bed in your room, it's all Big Apple here. Furthering the New York theme, "New York Experience" kits are available, free of charge, including a walking-tour kit, sports' fanatic kit (the hotel is 2 blocks from Madison Square Garden), and a fashionista kit, which, among other things, features a guide to local boutiques and a monthly schedule of sample sales. Though the New York theme is fun, all you really need to do is look out your window, where you just might see the Empire State Building, and you'll know very well what city you are in. Like other Affinia properties (The Benjamin and the Affinia Dumont), all rooms are suites with full kitchens. The room decor here is old-school -- no edgy furniture or amenities, but there is plenty of space. Bathrooms are small by comparison but include New York details like black-and-white tiled floors.
