The self-proclaimed "radical bookstore, fair trade cafe, and activist center in the Lower East Side of Manhattan" packs a lot of literature and activity into its Allen Street storefront (a block south of Houston St.). In addition to books on queer and gender studies, capitalism, feminism, democracy, and liberation, they also carry "good ol' smutty fiction," as well as a variety of independent magazines, journals, and alternative menstrual products (probably the only bookstore in Manhattan so equipped). There's a cafe, so you can buy a cup of tea or free trade coffee before joining the Dyke Knitting Circle or stepping up with your latest poem at an Open Mic.
