Named after a subject dear to the hearts of the Catholic monarchs -- the ejection of the Muslims from Iberia -- this is one of the most prestigious hotels in Spain. Originally built between 1754 and 1777 as an orphanage and hospital, it received visits from Queen Isabella II in 1858 and a reworking of its baroque stonework during a restoration in 1958. The Reconquista was converted into a hotel in 1973. Despite the subsequent growth of the city, the hotel remains the second-largest building in Oviedo. The interior boasts a combination of modern and reproduction furniture, as well as a scattering of ecclesiastical paintings and antiques. The spacious guest rooms are outfitted in antique styles, with views of the Old Town or of a series of elegantly antique interior courtyards. The hotel is 2 blocks north of the largest park in the town center, Campo San Francisco.
