If you have a tent and camping gear, all the better. Caves Beach is a quiet spot (except when the birds chorus at dawn); it's home to eastern gray kangaroos. It's about a 250m (820 ft.) walk from the car park to the campground. Greenpatch is more dirt than grass, but you get your own area, and it's suitable for motor homes. If you're lucky you might get your own campfire area. It's infested with overfriendly possums around dusk. Campsites cost between A$10 and A$20 per tent. Large tents cost extra. At some times of the year there is also a per-person fee, ranging from A$5 to A$10. The campsites fill up on summer weekends in particular and are almost impossible to secure around Christmas. Book in advance by calling tel. 02/4443 0977 or e-mailing email@example.com.
For supplies, head to the area's main towns, Huskisson (pop. 930) and Vincentia (pop. 2,350). The Huskisson RSL Club, overlooking the wharf area on Owen Street (tel. 02/4441 5282), has a good bistro and a bar. You'll have to sign in inside the main entrance. The Huskisson Hotel (also called the "Huskie Pub") is down the road and has a nice beer garden and cheapish meals at lunch.
