Formerly known as Le Parker Meridien, the Parker New York may be the only property in the city where the resort fee is warranted—at least for fitness buffs. The $35 daily fee covers entrance to a 17,000-foot-gym, so appealing and well-equipped the hotel sells memberships to it to the general public. It also offers a rooftop pool (unusual for Gotham hotels) and a robust schedule of fitness and yoga classes, all of which are covered by the fee. And those are just the beginning of the offerings at this massive property, which feels a bit like a city within the city. It boasts a stellar location (2 blocks from Central Park in one direction, the stores of Fifth Avenue in the other), and is the site of three of the most unique restaurants in midtown, Indian Accent, Norma’s (p. ###) and the Burger Joint (p. ###). In the basement is a beauty complex, featuring a dedicated nail salon, a “skin gym”, a Blow Dry Bar, and a full spa. As for the rooms: that’s a bit of an open question, as the property is in the process of becoming part of Hyatt’s Thompson Hotels portfolio. I can tell you their size won’t change (generous for NYC) and that they’ll likely become far more chic, in keeping with the aesthetic of that brand. And bonus: Hyatt loyalty points will be usable.
