This is one of the few emblematic cafes in the city that has managed to resist the ravages of modernization. The name comes from the Liceu Opera House, located directly across La Rambla, and once upon a time patrons would have gathered here for a pre-performance aperitif. Although it has been renovated over the years, the interior still retains Belle Epoque details. It's a great place to pull up with a book during its quieter daytime moments, and there is also a terrace if people-watching is more your thing. Tapas are limited, but the cakes are divine. Service is brusque, exuding a jaded formality in keeping with the surroundings.
