Frommer's Review
Originally built in 1956, this is the finest hotel in the Old Town, as the roster of famous guests (such as Michael Jackson) can attest. It's superior in comfort to its two closest rivals in the area, the Colón and the Rivoli Ramblas (and also more expensive). Guest rooms are spacious and comfortable, with extra-large beds and heated bathroom floors with tub/shower combos. All rooms have double-glazed windows, but that doesn't fully block out noise from Les Ramblas. The Renaissance Club, an executive floor popular with business people, provides extra luxuries. The hotel was refurbished at the end of 2006.
Facilities:
Restaurant; bar; health club; limited room service; babysitting; laundry service; dry cleaning

Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.
Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.
The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
