Frommer's Review
From grim and grungy to green and groovy, the Gat Raval is the first in this extraordinary little chain's mini-empire and has been a pioneer in giving hostal accommodations a much-needed face-lift. The Gats (Catalan for "cats") are so feverishly cool, that even hipsters who would normally stay at places like the Omm and the Prestige are checking in, and saving themselves a few euros while they're at it. Decorated in bright acid greens with matte black trim, Internet connections in the lobby, and neat bedrooms decorated with original works from the local art school give it an upbeat Boho vibe. Only some of the bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms (stipulate when booking) and communal arrangements are so clean you could eat your dinner off the floor.
