Frommer's Review
The Hotel Neri is a Gothic palace tucked neatly away on the delightful Plaça Felip Neri near the cathedral. With its velvet drapes and soft-lit, echoing hallways it's fast gaining a reputation as one of the most romantic places in the city. Bedrooms are plush with high-thread-count cotton sheets, shot-silk pillowcases, throws, and rugs. The minibar has all the usual tipples plus incense and candles. Some rooms have a tub as well as a shower. The Neri has just two suites (one of which was occupied by John Malkovich for a month while his play Hysteria was done at a local theater). Space, in fact, is of the essence in the cramped Barri Gòtic and the Neri has the added bonus of a terrace for coffee and cocktails on the plaza and a rooftop garden overgrown with jasmine plants and creepers. Pity they've felt the need to cram in sun loungers and it can feel a bit like a public pool when the place is busy. The somewhat overpriced gourmet "new Catalan cuisine" restaurant here is a further boon to followers of the super chef Ferran Adrià.
