San Fernando ReviewOutside of the luxury dining rooms of the hotels, this is the best restaurant in town. Dating from the 1700s, it is decorated with fabrics and wooden furnishings. Entered from a side street, the old-fashioned restaurant is on the second floor of an antique building, its windows opening onto the landmark square, Plaza de San Fernando, from which it takes its name. This is good local cooking, the type that's been served in the region for years. Classic soups include gazpacho and ajo blanco, a garlic soup flavored with almonds. Although it's an inland town, fresh fish reaches Carmona daily. Both cod and hake (merluza) appear perfectly grilled and spiced. Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.
Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.
The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
