The opportunity to see dozens of rare, native species that are often quite difficult to encounter in the wild make this one exciting place to visit. Birds are a highlight, with scarlet macaws, reclusive owls, majestic raptors, several different species of toucans, and a host of brilliantly colored birds from Costa Rica. In total, over 120 species of animals are on display, including dozens that are found only in Costa Rica. Wildlife enthusiasts will be able to get a closer look at animals they might have seen in the wild. Among the species you’ll observe here are iguana, deer, tapir, ocelot, puma, and monkey—and look out for the 3.6m (12-ft.) crocodile. Rescate houses only injured, donated, or confiscated animals. It takes about 2 hours to walk the paths and visit all the exhibits here.
