This is an izakaya (Japanese-style pub), which means that in addition to sake, shochu, beer, and other alcoholic drinks it also serves bar food ranging from grilled fish and sashimi to yakitori and kamameshi (rice topped with vegetables, chicken, or other ingredients). Located in the heart of downtown, it's a casual, easy-going place, with people mostly in their 30s and 40s gathered around wooden tables. This is a good place to try sake brewed in Kyoto (try the Kyosansui), but you might also want to come for the weekday lunch, when the teishoku (daily special) costs around ¥850.
