Woodstock Inn ReviewThe Woodstock Inn has a Jekyll-and-Hyde thing going on. In front, it's a white Victorian on the main commercial strip -- one of the few older inns in a forest of condos and modern resorts. Out back, it's a modern brewpub (in an old train station!), serving up hearty fare and ales to appreciative locals. The guest rooms are actually spread out among the main inn and four detached houses nearby; all units are individually decorated in a country Victorian style and furnished with both reproductions and antiques. Some rooms are pretty simple (two in the Deachman House even share a third-floor bathroom, and consequently cost less), but others -- such as all nine in the Cascade Lodge (where all the beds are constructed from knotty logs and tree trunks) and all three in the low-slung Sawyer House -- have some form of Jacuzzi. A few rooms have small refrigerators, too. This place has expanded and upgraded in recent years, a welcome change in a town better known for budget motels and snowmobile conventions than luxury digs. | 3 stars | Frommer's Exceptional |
Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.
Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.
The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
