Frommer's Review
Ask Saratogians for their favorite restaurant in town and they're almost sure to tell you Chianti. Charmingly Mediterranean, with deep-red curtains, flickering candlelight, an open kitchen, a main dining room lined with racks of wine bottles, and a warm and inviting Italian host (the owner, who greets you at the door), the restaurant sets the stage for a delightful meal. And the kitchen doesn't disappoint, with items such as porcini risotto in a light cream sauce, filetto al Gorgonzola (beef filet prepared with Gorgonzola cheese), dry-aged filet mignon, and grilled homemade sausage. There are also many good-value pastas such as costa ligure (linguine with scampi, olives, and capers in a spicy tomato sauce), and the salads are huge and excellently prepared (the misticanza toscano is a winner, with mixed greens, Tuscan white beans, Gorgonzola, walnuts, and roasted tomatoes). The extensive and impressive wine list includes many well-chosen Brunellos and Super Tuscans, but not too many at the lower end. You'd never know it, but Chianti is in a former Long John Silver's fast-food restaurant; talk about a transformation!
