How much time to devote to Mystic, CT

by JenTay »

I've heard the Seaport Museum is better than usual (for this sort of attraction) and yes, it's corny, but I'd like to try Mystic Pizza. Do I need to devote a full-day or will a half-day be enough to see the good sights in the area?

I would check out myconnecticutkids.com on things to do and timing. Depending on where you are driving from, we used to drive from about 2 hours away and it was a day trip for us - but that included the drive. So you could feasibly get away with a half day or slightly over w/lunch. Definitely go to Mystic Pizza - great pizza and corny but totally worth it.

It might be enough, or far from enough, depending on your interestes and what special programs are on for the day of your visit. The Seaport has a constantly-changing program of exhibits, walks, talks boat rides and children's events. Here's a link that will give you more ideas--it's the daily activity schedule for Spring 2013

As for Mystic Pizza--it's got a wild variety of quite-good pizzas, but you won't meet Julia Roberts there, or even see much about the movie. In other words, don't go for the show, go for the pizza!?

To truly enjoy and get the most from the Seaport - I would say 1 day is a minimun expenditure of your time. It is a living history museum and has ever-changing exhibits and demonstrations. Give it the time it is worth. You'll thank yourself later!
