For artisan breads and cheeses, pastries, pizza, and picnic supplies, I always go to Marché Provisions, 296 E. Fifth Ave. (tel. 541/743-0660; www.marcheprovisions.com), which is inside the 5th Street Public Market and is affiliated with Marché, my favorite Eugene restaurant. For gourmet food to go, perhaps for a picnic at a winery, there is also The Broadway, 200 W. Broadway (tel. 541/685-0790; www.oregonwineandmore.com), which is a sort of gourmet deli, grocery store, wine shop, and cafe all rolled into one. For rustic breads, breakfast pastries, and desserts, you can also try the Palace Bakery, 844 Pearl St. (tel. 541/484-2435; www.full-city.com). If you've got a sweet tooth, don't miss out on Sweet Life Patisserie, 755 Monroe St. (tel. 541/683-5676; www.sweetlifedesserts.com), which bakes the best pastries in Eugene. For good espresso, pastries, and gelato, stop by downtown's Perugino, 767 Willamette St. (tel. 541/687-9102).
