Fraunces Tavern is one of the most significant historic sites of "Nieuw Amsterdam." Housed in a building from 1717, this watering hole and restaurant is a 1907 replica of the original tavern on the premises, where George Washington bade farewell to his officers at the end of the Revolution. The pub offers a wide selection of bottled and draft beers, and the restaurant ironically serves British-inspired fare. Upstairs there’s an exhibit dedicated to the building, Washington’s farewell, and other aspects of the American Revolution. Most interesting artifact? A lock of Washington's hair (he was a redhead!)
