The tourist information office can offer advice on hiking and cycling options around town, and even rent bikes. Around 20 hiking and biking trails fan out through the pretty countryside in all directions. There are also more than a dozen horseback-riding centers in the vicinity. Several offer riding lessons and group outings, including sledding in winter. For a kind of throwback Wild West experience, try the Roleski Ranch (tel. 0602/753-148; www.roleskiranch.com.pl) in Stare Zukowice, about 15km (9 1/4 miles) north of Tarnów. They even have modest guest rooms if you'd like to spend the night.
