Xining's dining scene has always been diverse and more and more small cafes and Tibetan ventures are opening all the time. One such new establishment is the tiny Amdo Cafe on Datong Jie; while the sandwiches aren't great, the coffee is good value and the handicrafts on sale are all produced by Amdo women in Qinghai and profits benefit local Tibetan communities. In the summer months, one of the most popular things to do at night is to eat on one of Xining's renowned "eat streets." The biggest one is on Daxin Jie, where touts sell everything from barbecued fish to fried dumplings. Warning: This isn't the most hygienic environment; make sure you use disposable chopsticks. As well as the Western options listed below, there's the usual array of KFCs, Dicos, and an Origus pizza, all of which can be found at the junction of Changjiang Lu and Xi Dajie.
